This Lotus garden chair is designed for a large Hadham Refectory Table in a client's
kitchen. The table had legs which were influenced by the lotus pillars of Egyptian
temples and the chairs back has the profile of the bursting petals of a lotus bud and
similar to the lotus detail seen on the capital on one of the heraldic columns of
Tuthmosis III at Karnack in the great temple of Amon-Ra at Thebes. I use these chairs
in my own kitchen around the original Egyptian style Hadham Refectory table which has
a scrubbed oak surface. The lotus columns of the table are also used on the door frames,
a corner cupboard and a wall mounted mirror all with tops representing the outward curving
cornice seen on furniture and pylon walls. A versailles box with finials based on the
crown of upper Egypt supports an obelisk used as a bookcase.
