The structure of the Knebworth seats is, as in the Knebworth armchair, the same
as the Chinoiserie and Slatted Collections. The arms and the front under rails
are the same. The back slats are however wide and spaced closely together, each
slat having a bead moulding on the sides of the front face. Originally the
Knebworth was designed as interior furniture for an Irish country house, the
benches and seats were used in a large kitchen and two tables were designed with
tops where the gaps between the slats in a standard garden table were replaced
with narrow strips of wood of a darker colour, resulting in a table with an
outside look, but practical for kitchen dining. The Knebworth garden seat has a
Victorian rural feel to it and is well suited to country cottages and woodland
glades.
